I grew up in China in a time…
when psychology or mental health was not even a thing. Adolescence was a whirlwind of emotions with little self-awareness or self-understanding. I happened to come across books about psychology in college. Suddenly, my emotions and behaviors made sense.
I came to understand how my childhood experiences shaped my personality, my thinking, and my behavior patterns.
“I felt like a door was opened in front of me to give me a whole new outlook and a deeper understanding of myself. I was like a blind person who could suddenly see.”
I still remember the clarity and exhilaration I felt with my new realization and I decided…
I want to help people feel the same way.
It eventually led me to come to the US to learn more about psychology and counseling. Adjusting to a completely different environment, dealing with homesickness, loneliness, and stress, and figuring out relationship issues, were overwhelming at times.
Having lived in two different cultures and going through personal struggles have helped me to be more open-minded and more appreciative of people’s differences, whether it be different beliefs, experiences, perspectives, or choices.

I have worked extensively with women recovering from mental health disorders. I help them explore issues related to childhood trauma, self-esteem, healthy boundaries, relationships, personal empowerment, self care, and parenting. In addition, they learn healthy coping strategies.
Theoretical Orientation:
In working with client, I utilize person-centered and cognitive-behavioral theories, which means that, first of all, I believe everyone has the ability to resolve their issues and a safe supportive therapeutic environment is essential, then we will collaboratively identify how your thoughts and beliefs impact your feelings and behaviors, and we will work together to formulate a plan as well as steps to accomplish your goals.
I also include elements of ego state interventions or parts work and trauma-informed care in my approach such that I acknowledge the influence of early experiences, especially trauma, on current functioning, and assist clients with connecting with and healing wounded emotional parts due to trauma.
I utilize EMDR, which is one of the most effective trauma treatments, to treat trauma or past negative experiences and relieve related symptoms.
